Emergency Care

Emergency Room:
The emergency room is equipped to international standards and is staffed by fully qualified doctors and nurses 24/7.

Ground Ambulance:
Our emergency services include a 24-hour road ambulance that is based at our clinic. The ambulance can be called to attend emergencies, transport patients between hospitals, and is used to take medevac patients to Entebbe where they are transferred to AMREF or ISOS aircraft.

Air Evacuation within Uganda:
There are no medical air evacuation companies within Uganda, but we can do the next best thing for sick and injured patients who are a long distance up country. We send our nurse, doctor,
or paramedic in a privately hired small aircraft or helicopter to pick up the patient and bring him/her back to Kampala. This has to bepaid in cash, usually $3000 - $4000 USD, paid in advance. Such flights can only take place in the daylight hours as rural airstrips allow for visual landing. Many of our patients have been transported this way to receive the higher level of care that can be provided in Kampala or for connection to an international medevac flight.

International Air Medical Evacuation:
AMREF – Also known as The Flying Doctors service. This is a fully ICU equipped and staffed fixed wing air ambulance. It is based in Nairobi and is in partnership with The Surgery. Our patients who are very seriously injured or require intensive care level medical treatment can be flown day or night to Nairobi for admission in Nairobi Hospital or Aga Khan Hospital. Travellers interested in this regional medevac insurance should contact AMREF directly via their website.

International SOS
Many travellers have insurance with ISOS. Dr Stockley is the in-country medical contact for ISOS. If ISOS insured travellers require advanced level medical care or surgery that is not available in Uganda, The Surgery will arrange all the logistics for this evacuation. ISOS operates out of Johannesburg and flights are 4 hours in length. The medevac planes are fully equipped and staffed for ICU level of care.
